II D Extreme converged onto the music scene as an un-signed artist. Not knowing at the time they would later make history from a single D’Extra wrote and arranged entitled, “Cry No More”.
After shopping the demo around, the unmastered recording landed in the hands of WPGC – FM super DJ, Poco Lopez. When Lopez heard the song, he decided to play it over the airwaves for his listeners. The response to the song from the group’s hometown of Washington DC, was simply epic! With overwhelming demands pouring in for airplay, “Cry No More”, written and arranged by the group, gaining attention fasr. It wasn’t long before “Cry No More” began to spread nationwide, while the group was yet still un-signed.
Finally, after serveral months since “Cry No More” was first play over the airwaves, their highly anticipated debut album “II D Extreme”, was released on MCA records. The project sold enough units to earn “Cry No More” the prestigious status of “RIAA” certified Gold. No other single recorded by a non-labeled artist has enjoy the unique distinction of achieving such status and acclaim in decades.
To date, the group has appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, The Arsenio Hall show, Soul Train, BET, MTV and a host of other television live performance and behind the scene shows. The group appeared on the “Blankman” movie soundtrack with a remake of a “Spinners” classic song, “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love”, featuring “Patra.” The late Teddy Pendergrass featured II D Extreme on his song “Slow Ride to Heaven” from his “You and I” album.
These gentlemen are known for their friendly and humble demeanor, with crazy and humorous personalities.
When the disposition of their record company happened, it ultimately lead to the group’s long hiatus from the music scene. However, during the time away, each member kept active by pursuing personal creative endeavors and spending time with family. Jermaine released a couple of singles over the years, even teaming up with Randy on his song, “Radio.” Other songs from Randy’s project include, “Deeper” and the lovely ballad, “Marry Me.” D’Extra however, began to focused more on acting and writing movies. As an actor, he was a featured artist in David E. Talbert’s stage play, “A Fool And His Money.” D’Extra’s business partnership with Marvin Gaye III, enabled him the opportunity of being executive co-producer for “Pride & Joy; The Marvin Gaye Musical!” (read more about D’Extra above)
