Adrian LaVella
Singer, songwriter and Worship leader Adrian LaVella, grew up in Southern California, singing in the traditional penticastal church setting. As a introvertied young girl and the youngest of 6 siblings, she quickly realized that her gift of singing was taking her far out of her comfort zone and into the forefront. By age 14 she was already leading songs for praise services and radio broadcasting shows.
In the mid 1980’s, Adrian, her sister Lizzetta and their childhood friend Tanika, formed the group, “Harmoni.” The group gained a lot of attention and exposure in L A and along the entire west coast region. Being in Los Angeles, it wasn’t unusual to see Erica and Tina before they were the Grammy award winning gospel dual “Mary Mary”, Kurt Carr, super producer Warren Campbell and Harmoni, all singing on the same program supporting one another. After hearing her sing at an event, legendary gospel artist Andrae Crouch walked up to her and gave her some vocal tips to use.
Harmoni, was a regular opening act for the legendary gospel group “Commissioned” whenever they had a concert on the west coast.
“At one of our concerts with them, both Fred Hammond and Mitchell Jones approached us on the same day about management and producing, while neither wanted the other to know what they were doing”, as she recalls .
She has also opened up for BeBe & CeCe Winans, Shirley Caesar, Phil & Brenda Nicholas and Helen Baylor just to name a few.
In 1987, Adrian and her group were offered a recording contract with “Motown” Records while still in high school. However, because of their strong church up-bringing, personal convictions and contract stipulations, the group turned down the deal. A few years later, Harmoni would fly out to Detroit, MI for the “Young Artist for Christ” workshop seminar, hosted by producer and songwriter, Michael Brooks. The group helped sing background for Fred Hammond, Keith Staten, Lisa Paige-Brooks, Yolanda Adams, John P. Kee and Parkes Stewart on the live recording session.
Harmoni continued to be a force to be reckon with, while still recording a few songs until the mid 90’s. Singing since high school, the girls decided to disband and pursue other personal goals and raise families. However, Adrian’s passion for singing grew even more in the following years.
It wasn’t long before Adrian’s stand-out voice could be heard on “Because He Lives”, for the legendary Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark abd the Tony McGill Southern CA workshop choir. She can also be heard on the “New Day” recording project by “ALFC” (Abundant Life Family Church) and co-produced by Praise and Worship leader, Ken Reynolds. Adrian later teamed up with Jazz artist Rodney Green to record, “When I Call Your Name.”
In 2010, while experiencing a dark season in her life, Adrian was forced to search out GOD’s purpose and plan concerning her. Ultimately, this drove her to the true essence of worship with GOD. For her, worship was the only thing making any sense in her life that suddenly crashing down. It was then that she redefined herself and no longer considers herself a singer, but a worshiper who happens to sing. Adrian’s passion and purpose, is to now lead others into an extra-ordinary, intimate, worship experience with GOD.
Adrian, has had the opportunity to train Praise and Worship teams of various churches, denominations and nationalities with strategic focus in drawing people into the loving presence of GOD.
