Andrew Gouche
Andrew Gouché is a world-renowned bassist, musical director, composer, and Grammy® Award winning producer. He has inspired and paved the way for many of today’s generation of bass players, both in Gospel and R&B. With over 45 years of experience, he has been a staple bassist for many of our legendary Gospel and R&B artist alike.
Gouché, as he is often referred to as, is a native of Los Angeles, CA. He comes from a gifted and talented musical family. He got his start in music while singing in the church choir, where his mother was a lead singer and his grandfather was the pastor. At the age of 8, Gouché studied the trumpet, which he would play for the next 7 years. It was at the age of 15 that he discovered the bass guitar. In becoming one with the bass guitar, it was evident to him that this would be the instrument that leads him to his life’s purpose.
Gouché was honored to perfect his craft while playing his bass with the legendary Rev. James Cleveland, on numerous live and studio recordings. Gouché’s unique style helped to usher in a new rhythm to Gospel songbooks. He became best known for his masterfully creative bass lines; a sound that bass players try to emulate worldwide.
His distinctive sound was at the helm of thought in creating the Andrew Gouché signature line of bass guitars. Having graced the cover of “Bass Player Magazine” and gifting us with his industry interviews over the years, it is without question that Gouché is a Gospel legend in his own right.
A true pioneer; Gouché has made an indelible mark on the history of Gospel music in churches. Prior to, there was no bass guitar in the church. Today, the bass guitar is a must-have in churches across America. His success in the Gospel industry eventually opened the door for his first R&B gig with Cheryl Lynn. His reputation quickly led to regular calls for recording sessions spanning all genres of music.
Gouché’s professionalism, exceptional musical ear and creativity, were the natural ingredients for a career in music production. Gouché found success in this arena as a contributing producer on the debut recording project “Thankful” by the gospel dual, Mary Mary. The “Thankful” project brought him his very first Grammy Award. In 2008, he was nominated for a GMA Dove® Award for Traditional Gospel Album. He has since gone on to produce several recordings for a plethora of artists, including the Gospel Music Workshop of America.
Finally, after many years of hard work, Gouché found time to record and release his own highly anticipated debut recording project, “We Don’t Need No Bass.” The project speaks to his Gospel roots, yet showcases a broader musical skillset, blending Jazz and R&B into a soulful mixture of melodies. Considering himself a self-proclaimed church musician, with his currently released project, Gouché shows the world that he is a force to be reckoned with, as he pulls on the heartstrings of music lovers of all ages and genres.
